4. Verifytha talinkexistsbycheckingthattheportRX(Receive)LEDisON(flashing
amber,blinkinggreen,orsolidgreen). IftheRXLEDisOFFandtheTX(Transmit)
LEDisnotblinkingamber,performthefollowingstepsuntilitison:
a. Toviewthereceiveandtransmit
activityonagroupofsegments,pressthe
GROUPSELECTbuttontosteptothegroupofinterest(Groups1through4).
EachtimetheGROUPSELECTbuttonispressed,theGROUPLEDlightsupin
sequence,indicatingwhichGroupisselected.Thereceiveandtransmitactivity
forthatgroupof
segmentsisthenindicatedbytheRXandTXLEDsforeach
segment.
b. VerifythatthecablingbeingusedisCategory5UTPwithanimpedancebetween
85and111 ohms.Iftheportistooperateat100 Mbps,category 5cablingmustbe
used.
c. Verifythatthedeviceattheotherend
ofthetwistedpairsegmentisonand
properlyconnectedtothesegment.
d. VerifythattheRJ21connectoronthetwistedpairsegmenthastheproperpinouts
andcheckthecableforcontinuity.
e. CheckthatthetwistedpairconnectionmeetsthespecificationsintheCabling
Guide.

linkconsistsoftwofiber‐opticstrandswithinthecable:Transmit(TX)andReceive(RX)
ThetransmitstrandfromaDFE‐Gold moduleportconnectstothereceiveportofafiber‐
optic100BASE‐FXEthernetdeviceattheotherendofthe
segment.Thereceivestrandof
theapplicableMT‐RJportontheDFE‐Gold moduleconnectstothetransmitportofthe
fiber‐optic100BASE‐FXEthernetdevice.
Toconnectafiber‐opticcablesegmenttothemodule,refertoFigure 3‐11and proceedas
follows:
1. Removetheprotectivecovers(notshown)from
theMT‐RJfrontpanelconnectorand
fromtheconnectorsoneachendofthecable.
Note: An odd number of crossovers (preferably one) must be maintained between devices
so that the transmit port is connected to the receive port of the other device and vice versa.
